Your Name

"your name."(in originale "君の名は。")

"Your name." Is a Japanese 2016 animated film of written and directed by Makoto Shinkai (the author of "5 Centimeters Per Second" and "The Garden of Words"), who also adapted it into a novel. There is also a children's version of the novel and a comic book adaptation.
In Japan, the film was distributed by Toho.
The story starts as a "normal" body swap between two high schoolers: Mitsuha, a country girl heir of a Shinto temple, and Taki, a boy from Tokyo. But with the progress of the film the plot gets complicated, between age-old traditions, magic and cosmic events.
The plot in my opinion is the strong point of the film, classical enough to give expectations that it betrays in a series of twists that keep the viewer glued to the screen.
The characters are well written, although they tend to fall into the stereotype of Japanese shojo anime characters (the most interesting one is Mitsuha because of her connection with Shintoism).
The character design is quite classic too, even if the animations are very well made. Instead the landscapes and special effects are really beautiful.
In Japan, "your name." had a huge success, and for its gains it got in the fourth place in the entire history of Japanese cinema, and generally the film has been appreciated by critics around the world.
I myself would have passes this film with flying colors it was not for one detail: the songs inserted in several important moments, as if they were a continuation of the narrations. I found them extremely annoying, and because I found them too similar to "themes", because I think they slowed down the plot, and because I do not like Japanese pop music. But it seems they were explicitly requested by the director to the band Radwimps, whose singer, Yojiro Noda, composed the soundtrack of the film.
However I found it a beautiful movie anyway, a must if you love Japanese animation.
